A Tempurpedic mattress can be a game changer if you're a side-sleeper like me. I spent years waking up with sore hips, and my back feeling out of whack, without realizing the pain was a result of my sleeping position. More importantly, my discomfort was brought on by sleeping on a cheap coil spring mattress that was long past its prime. Then, a few years ago, I went to visit my grandparents and ended up spending the night. I slept in grandma's bed; she had her own room away from my grandpa's constant snoring.
Sleeping on grandma's Tempurpedic mattress was like heaven. The next morning when I got up, I didn't have any pain in my hips. As a result, I realized I needed a different mattress. Before my experience at grandma's house, I had never given much thought to my mattress. A mattress was a necessity, yes, but it was one of the last things I wanted to buy. In contrast, now I was on a mission to find a Tempurpedic mattress, so I could once again experience the restful sleep I had enjoyed during my visit.
What Is a Tempurpedic Mattress?
Tempurpedic mattress technology may not be the first thing to pop into our minds when we think about all the technological advances over the past twenty years. It's interesting to note, though, that Tempurpedic Mattress technology is a spin-off of a viscoelastic memory foam material that NASA developed in the 1970s to reduce the impact on an astronaut's body during a rocket's lift-off.
Scientists refined the technology to fit the needs of the general public, and in 1998, the Tempur-Pedic trademark received Nasa's "Certified Technology Seal." Today Tempur-Pedic is one of the most well-known brands in the mattress business. Much like the astronauts during take-off, you can expect a Tempurpedic mattress to absorb your body's weight when you lie down.
A Tempurpedic mattress conforms to the shape of your body, thereby relieving pressure points. The patented memory foam also regains its shape once you get up; the softer the mattress, the longer it takes. Another significant advantage to a Tempurpedic Mattress is the reduction of motion transfer so you and your partner won't disturb each other when you move around, or get up in the middle of the night.
Price Range for a Tempurpedic Mattress
Over a thousand dollars seems like quite a bit of money to shell out on a mattress, for some of us. If we stop to think about how much time we spend in bed, and how important a good night's rest is to our well-being, we can surely justify the cost.
Not to mention, our Tempurpedic mattress will last much longer than the traditional coil spring mattress.
Who Needs a Tempurpedic Mattress?
Side-sleepers, people with back pain, and pregnant women all benefit from the pressure relieving Tempurpedic mattress. If you plan to keep your mattress for more than a couple of years, then consider the benefits of owning one because it could change your waking life. The warm comfort of a Tempurpedic mattress will undoubtedly enhance your sleep time.

Tempurpedic Mattress Options
Tempur-Pedic offers a variety of mattress collections, which you can have delivered for free from the manufacturer's website. You can finance your new Tempurpedic mattress, and get a 90-night free trial, as well.
The thing to keep in mind about a Tempurpedic mattress is that they still need a base, in much the same way a traditional mattress needs box springs. People often make the mistake of not buying the base. Then they end up with a mattress that doesn't maintain its integrity because it is missing integral support.
The Tempurpedic Mattress Cloud Collection offers layers of comfort. Each mattress's construction features a top layer that repels moisture, a unique cooling system, and a removable cover that is machine washable. Tempurpedic mattresses come in soft, medium and firm. All mattresses are rated on a scale of one to 10 for firmness, with 10 being the most firm.
The Tempur-Cloud Collection includes five Tempurpedic mattresses that come in varying thicknesses from 10 inches thick to 13.5 inches thick. They offer sizes from twin and twin long, all the way up to a California King size that measures 72 inches by 84 inches. You can also get a split-king which is fantastic with an adjustable base.
Each mattress in the collection has a unique Tempur-adapt level, which is the rate at which the memory foam mattress conforms to your body's weight and shape. Tempur-Cloud mattresses are the softest in the Tempurpedic mattress line.
The Tempurpedic Mattress Contour Collection has a higher density in its top layer, which makes the mattresses in this collection the most firm of the Tempurpedic Mattress options. A firmer mattress is better for people who sleep on their back or stomach. It also works well for people who are heavier and have issues with back pain.
As with the other collections, this three-mattress series comes in all the sizes and ranges from 12.5 to 13.5 inches thick.
The Tempur-Contour doesn’t have a lot of reviews to garner. One thing I noticed was that no one mentioned getting too hot, which rates a star in my book.
The Tempur-Flex Collection is a series of medium density Tempurpedic Mattresses that work well for people who move around a lot at night.
The mattresses in this collection bounce back to their original shape quicker than the ultra soft Cloud Collection and the firm Contour Collection because of the additional dynamic support layer packed with precision coils. The coil layer is between the Tempur-Response layer (that has a bit more spring) and the base. The result of the added layer gives this Tempurpedic Mattress a little more of the feel of a traditional mattress because it doesn't take long to regain its shape once you move.
There are four options in this series that range in thickness from 10 to 12 inches. The Tempur-Flex Supreme Breeze has an additional cooling layer.
The Tempur-Flex Collection is a newer addition to the Tempurpedic Mattress family, so there isn’t a lot of feedback. The new technology does seem to be doing the job. Most of the reviews are positive, and the customers agree the added coils help with support. One customer gave the mattress a bad review. I’m guessing he didn’t purchase a base, because he said it was like “sleeping in a hammock” after a couple of weeks. We know that every Tempurpedic Mattress needs a base.
